Thai mocktails to try in Bangkok

Thai cuisine is built on fresh herbs, fruit and balance between sweet, sour and salty. That makes Thai flavours perfect for alcohol-free drinks. Here is what to look for on the menu.

Lemongrass and ginger

Bright, citrusy and a little spicy. Lemongrass is often brewed into a syrup or a cold tea, and ginger adds a clean kick. A great first choice if you usually order a gin and tonic.

Butterfly pea flower

The famous blue drink that turns purple when you add lime. Light, floral and very photogenic.

Tamarind

Sweet and sour, slightly smoky. Tamarind soda or a tamarind mocktail with chilli salt on the rim is a very Thai way to drink.

Pandan and coconut

Pandan has a vanilla-like, nutty aroma. With coconut water or coconut milk, it makes rich, dessert-style mocktails.

Kaffir lime and Thai basil

Intense, aromatic herbs that make a simple soda taste like a signature cocktail.

Tropical fruit

Lychee, passion fruit, mango, guava and pineapple. Ask for fresh fruit rather than syrup when you can.

Thai tea and coffee

Thai iced tea, Thai iced coffee and specialty cold brews are everywhere, and they are perfect for an early first date.
