Silom and Sathorn form Bangkok's business district. By day it is offices and banks; after work it becomes one of the city's best areas for rooftops, terraces and a first drink.
The vibe
Silom Road and Sathorn Road cross the central business district between Lumphini Park and the river. Office towers, hotels and embassies sit next to street food lanes and small bars. The crowd is a mix of office workers, hotel guests and residents of the many condos in the area.
After work
From around six, terraces and hotel rooftops fill with colleagues having a drink after work. It is one of the easiest moments in Bangkok to talk to strangers: people are relaxed, groups are mixing and nobody is in a hurry.
Lumphini Park
Before or after work, Lumphini Park is full of runners, cyclists and people doing outdoor workouts. Running clubs meet there several times a week and are a simple way to meet people who live nearby.
Getting there
BTS Sala Daeng and Chong Nonsi, MRT Silom and Lumphini. Sathorn also has the Chao Phraya Express boat pier at Saphan Taksin for a riverside evening.
